Our way of working

Many years of experience in the different areas of the event industry, creativity and independence enable our exceptional performance for events, exhibitions, TV and architecture. Despite growing technical complexity and budgetary challenges we never sacrifice our artistic and technical standards.

We solve tasks intelligently, creatively and efficiently. That’s a promise.

Design

Whether artistic or functional, static or animated, expressive or restrained – we know how and where light, with its special effects, can be used to advantage. With our years of experience based on professional craftsmanship and creative expertise we achieve individual and high-quality solutions for each task.

Surfaces and objects have evolved into media elements. Stage scenery and exhibition architecture focus on the effectiveness of mobile, graphical content. We have recognized the relevance and the design potential of these new technologies and use these design options for you.

Planning

We provide technical planning in the areas of lighting, sound, media technology, static considerations, special structures, kinetics, energy supply and logistics – for all technical aspects of a project.

By this we mean:

  • Conceptual planning and feasibility studies
  • Cost estimation and budgeting
  • Preparation of tenders and guidance in the allocation
  • Approval planning and communication with authorities
  • Implementation planning with simulation and test setups

A dedicated contact person will at your side at all stages of a project.

We are independent from suppliers and create sustainable budget security for our customers: from design to implementation in the field, we are effective controllers of the subcontractors.

Coordination

Complex projects require extensive support, both from technical and economic aspects. We support you in all phases of a project.

We provide:

  • Project procedure and structural planning
  • Cross-trades control
  • Communication with authorities
  • Technical management
  • Monitoring of construction times
  • Inspection and documentation of construction progress
  • Examination of achievements and audit of subcontractors
  • Hindsight and analysis

No project is too big, too complicated, too small or too annoying. We are a very efficient team, unconditionally and reliably your continuous contact person on-site. We enjoy our work and we are there for you with full commitment and passion.

Our philosophy

rgb means trust

rgb means independence

rgb means quality

We are designers and planners of passion and represent our brand values.

Trust and reliability are the foundation of our work – this applies both to the cooperation with our business partners and customers as well as to our team. So we identify ourselves with the demands, needs and goals of our customers and employees. After all, only on the basis of cooperation, sympathy, and loyalty can extraordinary results be achieved.

We are economically independent and free from foreign interests. We are neither manufacturers nor distributors of the technology we work with. There are no hidden ownership structures or other obligations to third parties. This is the only way to be able to work independently and make the right decisions in the interests of our customers.

Artisanal competence, years of experience, skilled employees, creativity and passion – these are the basics for quality. Quality based on the requirements of the customer is not a target, but a process that never comes to an end. To keep it that way, we invest in knowledge and development.

History

Bright since 1999: lighting design and technical planning of rgb

Early on, the founders of rgb gmbh succumbed to the fascination of light and technology.

Since the mid-1980s, Dirk Feuerstein and Lutz Kleine-Herzbruch have been working in the field of lighting design. In 1998 Dirk Feuerstein opened his first office on the grounds of the Zeche Zollverein, which is today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He and Lutz Kleine-Herzbruch established a joint company, and thus laid the foundations for today’s rgb gmbh.

In 2001, Mike Brockmann joined both creatives as technical expert for planning and project management.

The common mission of the three: to combine the three elements of design, planning, and project management into a successful unit in terms of a comprehensive service, and to make the particular aesthetics and emotionality of lights and technology tangible.

The following years prove that this approach works: The team of rgb gmbh continues to grow.

Master of event technology, engineers, draftspersons, designers, and other professionals enlarge the team. In several steps the premises of the former workshop building is expanded. The projects are extensive and increasingly international: The rgb team now manages projects worldwide.

In 2010, the decision was made to be locally active in the asian markets – the subsidiary studio rgb (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. located in Shanghai has been established, and starts the business activities successfully.

Location Germany

One who is at home in the world needs a home: Zeche Zollverein

The unique location Zeche Zollverein has been the home of rgb gmbh since it was founded. From 1847 to 1986 coal was mined here in the heart of the Ruhr district. Today, the area of Shaft XII has been an industrial monument since 2001 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Shaft XII was designed by the architects Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer, and started operations in 1932. The design of the mine was considered to be a technical and architectural masterpiece. The structure followed the Bauhaus school of design, and was the trend for the functionally practical industrial construction. In 1932, the mine was the most advanced facility worldwide. In those days as now Zollverein was referred to as the “most beautiful coal mine in the world.”

The Zeche Zollverein is symbolic of the structural transformation of the region from heavy industry to services. The area became a center for cultural and creative industries with a focus on design and architecture. Along with an industrial museum, cultural facilities, the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, and many other representatives of the creative industries, our team works daily on new ideas and concepts – a special atmosphere that always inspires us.

Our offices and our light laboratory are located in the former workshop of the mine, Hall 10 on the premises of Shaft XII.

Visit us at the Zeche Zollverein site, and let yourself be inspired by the breathtaking scenery and the special ambience!
